April 30, 1998 - 0:0
HONG KONG A survey in Hong Kong shows the public's confidence in the city's economy has dropped drastically, with 86 per percent saying they thought unemployment had become a serious problem, the China university said Wednesday. Unemployment has risen in Hong Kong from 2.4 percent just before the July 1997 handover to china to 3.5 percent. Other concerns voiced by the 1,000 respondents to the survey included financial support for the unemployed and the elderly as well as the housing problem in Hong Kong. More than half of those interviewed said they had no regular income.
